In my opinion, Scream 2 (’97) holds its own—and maybe even outshines Scream (’96), which is wild considering how good the original was! That first one was such a blast—fun, wacky, kinda chaotic in the best way. But Scream 2 kept that same spirit and just leaned into it without a care in the world. The meta stuff was sharper, the kills were more fun, and the whole college vibe gave it this playful, ridiculous energy that I loved.
Scream 2 doubles down on its own existence as a sequel by openly dissecting sequel tropes within the movie. You've got characters literally sitting around in film class debating sequels that surpass the original (Aliens, Godfather II, etc.), all while Scream 2 tries to do just that. Lol!
Oh man! I could talk about those for ages. Love them so much— other than part 3, which has always been a snooze— and have gotten to see them all in theaters over the years. Such an unbelievably odd and wonderful series that has jumped the shark more than a few times
You are absolutely correct on Prom Night 2. Rewatched it a few months ago and it still holds up nicely. That rocking horse is bizarre in the best way possible.
I wrote on Leprechaun this year for St Paddy’s Day and not really a fan and agree 100 on the poor pacing etc. I need to watch 2 and 3 as a I’ve also read those are better. That series is one I kinda slept on in the 90’s.
And I’m a fan of Warlock 2, Silent Night Deadly Night 4, etc you listed off expert COTC 2. For horror sequels better than the original I’d go..
Amityville Horror 2
Friday the 13th part 4,63,2 for sure but I’m also a New Blood and Manhattan guy.
All solid picks…props for being a manhattan and new blood guy. I have complicated relationships with those two, but they both have a super special place in my heart. Shockingly, I love Friday 5 and would watch that any day over the original

And they dropped it just a year later?
Respect to this sequel.
Oh, that’s a great take. You usually don’t find folks who rank scream 2 higher, but I hear ya loud and clear!

I could talk about the entire Silent Night Deadly Night series all day.
I love them all lol.

Obvious one is Evil Dead 2.
Nightmare 3: Dream Warriors
Bride of Frankenstein
976 Evil 2

Hello Mary Lou is a WILD movie. I love it.
One of the best, truly
I mean, where else does a villain kill someone by humming a Little Richard song?
This is awesome!
'Leprechaun 2' is definitely slept on in terms of cult horror.
